Dear Ms. White,
I’ve been wrestling with this issue for decades and I’d like to welcome you to our unformed circle of like-minded thinkers, among whom I’d include my teacher, Yitz Greenberg, David Blumenthal, and Dov Weiss. For years I was an “arguer with God” now I’ve transcended that category–as has my God. Yasher kocheich!
Hi Anson, I wrote my doctorate on Yitz Greenberg and so am intimately familiar with his thought. I’m glad the article resonated with you. Thanks for writing.
Excellent piece. You raise some very valid points. I too am troubled by this and woukd like to hear theological explanations. Do you have anybto share?
I’ve adopted the theological approach of Rabbi Harold Kushner author of “When bad things happen to good people”. That is, that G-d is not all powerful and that evil exists in this world outside of the deity. That is the only way I can still believe that a G-d exists.
